Fab Fun in First & Second Grade!
First Grade is a huge transitional year where children really learn the awesomeness of being independent learners! However, this transition to independence can also cause anxiety for some children. The First Grade teachers spend a great deal of time building confidence in students through fun, hands-on learning experiences. We work in Centers quite a bit which encourages independence as well as team-building skills. During science and STREAM, students are challenged to think critically to find better solutions to problems while working cooperatively with teammates.
As a second grader, one focus in this year is building the foundation of our faith. We prepare to receive two sacraments, First Penance and Holy Eucharist. We not only grow in our faith, but we also grow into independent readers. We focus on pushing past our comfort levels and strive to reach our academic goals. Throughout our day, we approach learning as an adventure. We will explore Adventure Aquarium which will lead us to learn about life cycles. We will bring the excitement into our classroom by planting basil seeds and helping them grow.
