Time flies when you really are having so much fun! This is my 23rd year as a teacher here at SATG (and my 25th year as a teacher!) I am a graduate of Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Science degree in teaching grades K-6. I am a Certified Wilson Language Teacher and I am available to tutor all subjects after school. I have had so many incredible experiences both professionally and personally. I was fortunate to complete my Student Teaching in London, England. I taught 4th year Juniors which is the equivalent of 5th grade here in the States. When I finished my term as a Student Teacher, I took 2 months and traveled all over Europe. Ever since that trip, I have decided that I love to meet people and visit all sorts of interesting places. My husband Matt and I have been married for 24 years. He is so supportive of me and my love of teaching! He is a soccer-obessed coach and fan. We have two children. Sean, who is now a Junior at Temple University and Megan, who is a Freshman at Messiah University. (How did they grow up so quickly???) Six years ago, I was very sick and in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Forturnately, one of my very good friends, and colleague here at SATG, was able to donate one of her kidneys to me. I am forever grateful for the incredible "Gift of Life" I have been given. I am really looking forward to getting to know each of my students and their families! It's going to be a GREAT year!
My Catholic Faith is an important part of who I am. A Catholic School Teacher strives to live as a Christian and teach by example. Each child is an individual, each with their own strengths and challenges. Students require a variety of opportunities to help them reach their fullest potential in all areas of the curriculum. Above all, a teacher must maintain a classroom environment that encourages mutual respect and kindness towards all.
Third Grade is Truly Terrific! During this year students will strive to become more independent. This year the students will be receiving their First Holy Communion. I am so excited to share this wonderful experiene with them! One of the very first projects is our Saint Project. Each student will create a "shield" about their "Saint" and we will present these during our November School Mass. During ELA, we follow"The Daily 5 Model" with restrictions - Read to Self, Listen to Reading, Word Work and Work on Writing. We write a Personal Narrative, a Persuasive Letter to Santa, and an Informational Paragraph about an animal and it's habitat. We create an Adjective Cafe and at the end of the year we read "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder and turn our classroom into a One-Room School House! During Math, the students learn all Multiplication Facts using many different strategies. We use our knowledge of area and perimeter to create a personal Valentine Mailbox. In Science, we are so lucky to have Science Fusion for our book. It has great experiments and STEM activities that I am looking forward to doing with my classes!
