MY EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
My educational philosophy can be summed up in one sentence: School has to be real. I don't want to run a classroom where students do meaningless tasks and pretend to learn, or simply spit back the memorized answer I told them a few days earlier. I want them to really question things, pursue issues that are important to them, and explore topics and thoughts they may not have been exposed to before. I want them to feel comfortable "risking" getting something wrong in order to stretch outside their comfort zone. To me, growth is the purpose of all education - and of life in general. Challenge and struggle are the necessary partners of growth.
MY STORY
My name is Carolyn Carradorini and this is my seventh year teaching 8th Grade ELA and Religion at St. Albert's. I received my B.A. in psychology with certification in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Immaculata University in May of 1991.
I had ten very happy years teaching 5th grade at Our Lady of Ransom School. During this time I had my first two sons, Anthony and Nick. With the birth of my third child, David, I decided it was time to stay home, and so I became a stay-at-home mom for the next 14 years. During this time I had three more children (all girls), Gianna, Sophia and Danielle. However, the love of teaching never left me, and I spent much of my time at home tutoring nearly every subject and grade level including SAT and ACT prep. I also home-schooled my children for several years.
In 2014 I began teaching a class at Northeast GED Center, and five years ago I officially re-entered full-time teaching at St. Matthew's School.
This year will be my seventh in 8th grade, and I love it! Every year brings new challenges and new insights.
St. Albert the Great has been my home for the last 28 years. During my time here I have taught CCD, started a Families in Faith group, and helped run a women's prayer group. I have participated in Aid for Friends, the Pro-Life Organization, Charismatic Prayer Group, and First Sunday Coffee Team. I have been on the Stewardship Committee, Faith Sharing Groups, and a lector at mass. I have been a church cleaner and the weekend cook at the rectory for several years. In fact, you can still find me there on Tuesday nights selling scrip!
As you can see, my faith and my parish family are very important to me, and I feel it is a blessing to be able to teach at the school where my children have attended.
