Welcome to Music Class!
In music class, students will receive a holistic and balanced introduction to music, covering diverse topics related to music performance, music history, music appreciation and music theory.
It is my goal to impart students in all grades with an appreciation for and understanding of the music that surrounds them. I strongly believe in meeting students where they are, which includes studying and performing music that they care about, in ways which excite and engage them.
In music class, students will also be prepared as parishioners, since as Catholics, music plays an important role in our worship. Students will learn about music as an element of faith, and be prepared as active participants in the liturgy.
About Mr. M
I have been playing music for as long as I remember, and have performed in church choirs, bluegrass bands, orchestral choruses and more. Since I was an undergraduate studying music composition at Temple University (go Owls!), I have been sharing my love for music as an educator. Since starting as a peer tutor, and eventually becoming a Teaching Assistant as I studied for my Masters degree, I have been striving to instill my passion for music, and love for learning.
I am currently a Masters candidate in music history at Temple, where my research focuses on the liturgical singing of the Byzantine Catholic Church. As a devout Catholic of the Byzantine Rite, I have a special appreciation for music as an element of worship.
I am so very excited to be starting as a teacher at Saint Albert the Great this year, I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!
